I am in favor of pulling the rug out from under the political/media/money theater of crime and punishment and form two committees with a deadline. First, figure out which laws does a civilized society really need and abolish the unnecessary. Second, put the needed laws on the ballot for citizens to vote to rank the violations of these laws and what the punishment should be.

Crime and punishment is linked to national security, immigration, and many other issues. It needs major overhauling. Some fines and jail time is to low others is to high. Money, politics, and family background, plays to high place in the court system. If you can not control what is happening in your own backyard you should not be telling other country's how to handle their affairs.

Violent criminals must be dealt with accordingly. These criminals generally do no reform and recidivism rate is very high.

I support laws that don't enforce the Prison Industry Complex system that is designed to profit from cultural specific disparities in punishments. The system needs reconstruction in a major way that it is equal to all people. Pressure from the communities will create change. We have power to stop violations. This will not eliminate punishment or sentencing, but, it will oppose the death penalty.
