We have more people in jail today than any other country . . . we have large numbers of lives that have been destroyed because of this war on drugs and because people have been caught smoking marijuana and so forth. I think we have got to end the war on drugs . . . I am not unfavorably disposed to the legalization of marijuana.

I don’t support legalizing marijuana. If it were on the ballot in the state of Texas I would vote no. But I also believe that’s a legitimate question for the states . . . and the citizens of Colorado and Washington State have come to a different conclusion . . . I think it is appropriate for the federal government to recognize that the citizens of those states have made that decision.

If you ever do drugs, then you destroy what you were made to be. Yes, [I’ve smoked marijuana]. I’m not all hung-up about marijuana. We don’t want to demonize people; I just don’t want to legalize drugs. When it comes to medical marijuana, if the experts ... say we need this for people with seizures, I’m for that.

I want to move marijuana off of Schedule I … I am 100% in favor of medical uses for marijuana, but I want to know what the evidence is. … Let’s be really smart about this and acquire the evidence and then make the best decisions.

Anything done under the cover of a marriage license or a doctor's supervision is fine with me. Attend all the concerts that you can, that's the only way artists get paid these days.
