Our state was built on the backs of a unionized labor force. Workers lost their lives fighting for protections and benefits from corporation. Research has shown that unionized workforces are better for employees in terms of safety and benefits, performance guarantees and production for the company and more money to stimulate the economy.

While unions were once instrumental in protecting the workers they represent, they now focus almost exclusively on political agendas.

Labor unions pushed for the minimum wage laws, child labor laws, work week laws, and safety in the workplace that we take for granted today. Healthy labor relations with employers, I know as a former AFT NM official and ATF negotiating team member, benefit everyone. Right to work initiatives seek to break down the achievements of labor unions and are unproven as drivers of economic development.

I support not allowing companies to take advantage of workers, but I also don't like the idea of unions forcing employees to pay for their existence, nor do I agree with unions creating an environment in which people simply don't have to do much work, they become entitled, and it's almost impossible to fire someone.
