Healthy Local Government

Local government has the opportunity to be excellent, but only if the best ideas come forward and the best candidates run competitive races. Local One-Party government prevents excellence because it can place too much emphasis on rewarding Party Loyalty instead of speaking out or looking for new solutions to vexing problems. Better civil Government at all levels can begin at the local level because local Government is the closest to the People. In fact, this can re-engage responsible political citizenship at all levels.

Local Government should be representative of those who live and work in the city. City council should comprised of diverse, team player, elected individuals who have a stake in the economic future of the city in which they live, work and do business. In all situations, it is my opinion that a councilperson's main responsibility is to listen to residents and make the city meet their needs.
