Affordable Housing

The signs of a housing crisis are all around us. Redfin, a Seattle based internet real state site, reported that home sales in the 44th LD are selling within a few weeks and at 10% to 15% above asking. The 2016 PIT count in Snohomish County showed an increase in the number of unsheltered persons over last year’s count. A person earning minimum wage is unable to afford even basic housing. I support the “Housing First” model and the WLIHA.org legislative agenda. I plan to focus on supporting and funding programs like San Francisco’s Navigation Center.

I will strongly fight for our HUD, FHA, and Section 8 programs that are safety nets that help our elderly, disabled, our children and low income citizens. Plus this is a great job creator for new building that help our citizenry

My position is that every law abiding human being deserves a safe and affordable place to live to care for themselves and/or raise their family. There should be no obstacle(s) utilized for the purpose of discrimination in any form or discriminatory act, even if there were no protected classes.

Housing is a basic need and a right. Having a stable and secure abode is essential to well being. Miami Dade is the 7th most populous county in the United States. "The number of Miami-Dade County renter households that were cost burdened (spent more than 30% of income on housing)"” There is a housing crisis in Miami Dade County and it must be addressed, now!

A person earning minimum wage is unable to afford even basic housing without two incomes, not including costs of living. Our city has had an affordable housing shortage for over a decade yet past administrations have failed to address this issue in a realistic way. Affordable housing means a person has more money available to potentially spend at local businesses, thus more possible tax revenues
