Affordable Housing

The signs of a housing crisis are all around us. Redfin, a Seattle based internet real state site, reported that home sales in the 44th LD are selling within a few weeks and at 10% to 15% above asking. The 2016 PIT count in Snohomish County showed an increase in the number of unsheltered persons over last year’s count. A person earning minimum wage is unable to afford even basic housing. I support the “Housing First” model and the WLIHA.org legislative agenda. I plan to focus on supporting and funding programs like San Francisco’s Navigation Center.

My views on affordable housing might not be identical to yours, but that is okay. I believe we should have houses that the average American can afford, but I do not believe a county should be filled with Government assistance on housing. The price of homes are on the rise, but that also means that the economy is slowly turning around. I think you should pay what the home is worth, not 80% more.

We have projects designed similar to the "HOUSING FIRST” model approach to quickly & successfully connect individuals & families experiencing homelessness to permanent housing without preconditions & barriers & the "WLIHA.ORG LEGISLATIVE AGENDA' that advocates for public policy that supports affordable homes. With that said, I will continue to focus on supporting & funding programs alike.

A person earning minimum wage is unable to afford even basic housing without two incomes, not including costs of living. Our city has had an affordable housing shortage for over a decade yet past administrations have failed to address this issue in a realistic way. Affordable housing means a person has more money available to potentially spend at local businesses, thus more possible tax revenues
