Immigration, A Workable Immigration Policy

The borders of the US represent its sovereignty and hence need to prevent both illegal immigration as well as terrorists. America needs a sensible and practical immigration policy that secures our borders but also provides for more opportunities for legal immigration of qualified individuals. I support a path to legal status for the 11 million illegal immigrants who are already in this country, provided that they have no criminal record. We need to create a guest-worker program, with the appropriate eVerify and security checks, which allows seasonal migrant workers to temporarily enter and work in the US. A significant portion of the farming industry and some non-farming ones such as meat packing depend on this migrant workforce.

Some call it "Amnesty." Others call it "Common Sense." I believe in securing our borders. Absolutely. I also believe in the immigration policy that Marco Rubio supported during his campaign for president. We need to impose fines on those who have broken the law and stayed here illegally, but deporting 12 million illegal immigrants is neither practical nor is it responsible.

I oppose a legal path to those who are here and have broken our laws. In this case, possession is not 9/10 of the law. Go home and come back legally.

Seems like Democrats want to open the flood gates and pay for everyone. Republicans want to build a (ridiculous) wall. Understand we are a nation of immigrants. Mexico should be one of our strongest allies. If ISIS & terrorism is truly our enemy, you would think we would want our closest neighbor & trading partner, a country that is predominantly Catholic no less, on our side.

A person may immigrate to the U.S. and contribute to our economy and diversity, PROVIDED that they have passed the appropriate security checks and have registered to pay taxes. We cannot afford to recklessly hand-out benefits to those who wish to take advantage of our generosity - nor can we afford to prohibit the entry of hard-working peoples whose skills definitely benefit our economy.

America of today has evolved a productive system and a type of capital that is growing beyond what our human population and capability could easily handle. The only way to beat competition and stay ahead of this productive cycle is to overhaul our immigration system. Immigrants will boost medicaid & social security contributions. Grant them a legal status. Mexicans, I'd grant them a native right
