As a mother of 4 kids and a recent UW graduate myself, obviously education is a very high priority for me and my husband. Every election cycle we hear elected officials and candidates pay lots of lip service to education and then there is little positive action. Even in challenging economic times, education must be fully funded from Kindergarten to University.

SKSD needed another high school a decade ago, and it's still not even on the horizon. Ridiculous super majority school bond requirements make it nearly impossible to ever pass a new high school bond, and Republicans in the state Senate are making sure to block any hint of a new tax or tax increase that could properly fund public education, desire a State Supreme Court mandate to do so.

Everyone deserves a chance in life. We no longer subsist on what animals we kill or what food is harvested from plants in the forest. What we do today requires skills and knowledge, and we have advanced such that only through organized educational programs can these skills and knowledges be transferred to the next generation.

We Must Adequately Invest In Our Public Schools To restore balance in Topeka, we must redefine our measures of success. No challenge was ever overcome by playing defense alone. I will work for long-term constitutional funding for our students and teachers, and not claim victory in short-term solutions that fail to move our schools or community forward.
