A nation without civil liberties for all is a nation destined to fail. A nation without civil rights for all is a nation doomed to tyranny. Our nation was founded on this principle, and it is one I hold dear. But these liberties and rights also come with responsibilities, and that is what we, as a people, have forgotten.

With the growth of big government comes the erosion of our civil liberties, such as forced annexation and civil asset forfeiture. I believe strongly in the 4th Amendment's protection of individual privacy and will work to restrict the federal government's influence and control within our state borders.

End police brutality and mass incarceration. Create a Truth and Reconciliation Commission to understand and eliminate the legacy of slavery that lives on as pervasive racism in the economy, education, housing and health. Ensure that communities control their police rather than police controlling our communities. Expand women’s rights, protect LGBTQIA+ people from discrimination.

Many Americans believe that the biggest threat to their liberty is the government. That is simply unacceptable in a nation that was literally founded on the notion of liberty. I really believe that at the heart of the militarization of police has been the War on Drugs. A person of color has a much greater likelihood of going to jail for drugs than a white person.
