I have served on Harrisburg Town Council for the last two years. I have a background in community service that began 20 years ago as a volunteer firefighter and later a police officer. I made a transition to ministry about 10 years ago. I am married to my wife Carrie and we have a 3 year old daughter and 7 month old son. I am seeking the Office of Mayor of Harrisburg, NC. I believe we can be extraordinary together as we move into the future.. Take time to view my positions and feel free to ask questions. I would love to have your feedback and support on November 7th, 2017.
“In my first two years as a town Councilman I have learned many things, but I will not pretend to be an expert on every topic. It is however my opinion that Harrisburg needs a strong vision, not just a vision statement but a plan of implementation. We need new ideas for our community, better managed growth, and better communication with the general public. ”
“Harrisburg has a great and a safe community. I also know what well prepared law enforcement officers look like and we have great deputies. In my opinion we are a safe community in large part due to the deputies that serve our community. Harrisburg is also a growing community and because of this it is my opinion that increase funding by adding 4 deputies to continue keeping Harrisburg a safe town.”
“I have this burning question on the transportation bond. Long after I'm finished serving in an elected position (12-15 years after the bond is issued) asphalt roadways will need paving again. The problem is this: We will be paying for the proposed bonds for 20 years. We will again be in the same situation. Asphalt roads will need paving again but next time we will still have debt from this bond.”
“If elected as Mayor I will continue to push to have our meetings broadcast and published to avoid conflicting information in the future. In addition to broadcasting regular meetings we should do the same with budget workshops, advisory board meetings and community meetings. If we want the community's trust we must provide them with every tool available to look into our actions. ”
“Do you know the Town of Harrisburg has more than $19 million in total debt? About $5 million is outside of the water and sewer fund. We also have known projects that are beginning or already planned for debt that is in the neighborhood of $6 million dollars. This is about $25 million is obligations do we need more debt? I don't think we need more debt at this time.”
